Tiny Master Bath – Bath

With every square inch both a challenge and an opportunity, this very small, very dated combination master bath and laundry underwent a sleek, modern transformation. This bath remodel is a perfect example of how attention to even the smallest of details can yield big results.

This extremely small space, just under 9 x 12 feet, needed to accommodate not just a tub, shower, sink, toilet, full length mirror, and make up area, but a stack laundry as well. Plus we had to increase storage to include space for a hamper and linens, compensate for a low ceiling and poor lighting, and utilize existing windows, doors, and views.

After carefully analyzing every inch of available space, we increased the eye level sense of space, and showcased the outstanding views, by painting the sloped ceiling a dark espresso brown The wedge shaped tub and step adds architectural interest as does the variety of cabinet depths. We installed a cabinetry system that features interior and exterior lighting, thoughtful storage, interior and exterior mirrors, sink and towel bar, and a make up vanity that opens and drops down over the toilet.

Adding a decorative ceiling fixture, a light soffit along the end wall, and accent lighting above laundry cabinet to highlight sculpture, greatly improved both the functional and aesthetic lighting. The laundry/storage cabinet has interior lighting and a full length, sliding door that moves to cover the washer/dryer, reduces visual clutter and eliminates a door swing into the room. The right side of laundry/storage contains the hampers and linen storage. A variety of wood, tile, glass, and metal finish materials provide visual interest. Mirrored surfaces and a pivoting glass shower door reflect lighting and views at various times of day and night while a pocket door replaced the entry door to save space.
